International Achievements
In early April 2026, as part of the Artemis-2 mission, the first crewed lunar flyby since December 1972 was carried out. This mission not only became an important step in space exploration but also opened new prospects for medical research in microgravity conditions. Scientists plan to study the effects of long-duration space flights on the human body, which could lead to the development of new methods for preventing and treating diseases associated with prolonged stays in space.
Achievements in Russia
On April 7, 2026, as part of World Health Day, the Federal Center for Neurosurgery in Tyumen presented ten interesting facts about the brain. Among them: the brain consists of two hemispheres, each controlling the opposite side of the body; it is 75% water; contains 86 billion neurons; weighs an average of 1.5 kg; consumes 20% of the body's total energy and oxygen; is 60% fat; generates about 6200 thoughts per day; has over 1 million kilometers of neural connections; has a memory capacity of up to 1000 terabytes; and pumps 750-1000 ml of blood through itself every minute.
On April 6, 2026, at the same center, unique minimally invasive surgeries to treat epilepsy were performed. The operations lasted just 15 minutes and were carried out without incisions or blood loss. One of the patients was conscious during the procedure. These achievements were made possible thanks to the coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including neurosurgeons, psychologists, neurophysiologists, and anesthesiologists.
In April 2026, Russian scientists also developed a gas compression unit with 98% efficiency and virtually no heating. The gas is compressed through smooth displacement by an incompressible fluid—oil.
These achievements testify to the high level of development of medical science and technology in Russia and the world, as well as the aspiration of scientists and doctors to improve the quality of life for patients and expand the possibilities of medicine. This was previously reported by Lenta.ru.
